Massage therapy is a form of hands-on therapy that involving applied pressure, tension, and movement to the soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It is a popular form of complementary and alternative medicine that is used to promote relaxation, reduce pain, and tension, and improve overall health and well-being.

There are several different types of massage therapy, each with its unique techniques and benefits. Some of the most popular types include Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, and sports massage.

  • Swedish massage is a gentle form of massage that involves long, smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements. It is used to promote relaxation, relieve stress, and improve circulation.

  • Deep tissue massage is a more intense form of massage that targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is used to treat chronic pain, injuries, and muscle tension.

  • Sports massage is a type of massage that is designed for athletes and active individuals. It is used to improve flexibility, prevent injuries, and promote faster recovery from workouts or sports injuries.

The benefits of massage therapy are numerous and well-documented. Some of the most significant benefits include:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety - Massage therapy has been shown to reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, leading decreased feelings of anxiety and improved mental and emotional well-being.

  • Pain relief - Massage therapy can be effective in reducing pain caused by a wide range of conditions, including muscle tension, injuries, and chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia.

  • Improved flexibility and range of motion - Massage therapy can help to improve flexibility and range of motion in the joints, which can be beneficial for athletes and people with musculoskeletal conditions.

  • Improved circulation - Massage therapy can improve blood flow and lymphatic drainage, leading to better circulation, reduced swelling and inflammation, and improved overall health.

  • Enhanced immune function - Some studies suggest that massage therapy can boost the immune system, helping to fight off illness and disease.

  • Improved sleep - Massage therapy has been shown to improve sleep quality, leading to better overall health and well-being.

Massage therapy can be a safe and effective way to promote relaxation, reduce pain and tension, and improve overall physical and mental well-being. However, it is important to work with a qualified and experienced massage therapist to ensure that the therapy is appropriate for your specific needs and health conditions.

Audrie Byrne

Licensed Massage Therapist

At age 15 she began a medical massage apprenticeship as a hobby. During that time, she saw how decreasing pain can increase quality of life which quickly turned her hobby into her chosen career path. She graduated from Utah College of Massage Therapy in 2009, and specialized in Structural Integration in 2011, which is the foundation of her services. Since then, she has

continued her studies in functional assessment, CranialSacral Therapy, visceral massage, breath work, yoga instruction, and trauma informed bodywork. She’s a forever student, a curious listener, and would love to hear about your body goals to see how she can help.

Structural Bodywork

Developed from the foundations of Structural Integration, which is also known as Rolfing, Structural Bodywork is the combination of movement education and soft tissue manipulation to unbind the restrictions of the fascia lines and fascia layers of the body. This detailed bodywork can release chronic holding patterns and create balance in the body's structure in relation to gravity. Through this style of bodywork, we are able to decompress the joints, increase range of motion, achieve supported form and functional alignment during movement.

Breath and Diaphragm Bodywork

To begin this session, Audrie will assess where your body has restrictions that limit and restrict your breath and address those areas with detailed fascia release in order to achieve postural alignment that is supportive and creates freedom of the breath. Benefits include: connection and coordination of the breath, activation of the diaphragm, support of the vagus nerve health,

cultivation of stress resilience, and expansion of breath capacity.

Visceral Bodywork

This specialized bodywork focuses on the organs, approached in a manner that is slow and mindful in order to release restrictions that occur within the organs and in their surrounding fascia. Releasing restrictions of the organs can relieve chronic pain and holding patterns, as well as increase range of motion throughout the body, and support overall organ health.

IntraOral Massage

This is medical massage of the soft tissues within and surrounding the mouth and neck to promote jaw alignment, increase range of motion, and decrease pressure on the temporomandibular joint. IntraOral massage is done with gloved hands and focuses on balancing the Pterygoid muscles which can decrease involuntary grinding of the teeth, clenching of the jaw, joint pain, headaches, and pressure on the ear.
