Yoga is an ancient Indian form of spiritual, mental, and physical practices, often exercised simultaneously, with the goal of controlling and quieting the mind. Yoga is done with the intention to improve self-awareness, as well as to relieve anxiety and other unsavory mental environments that result from the feeling of separateness from the universe. The word “yoga” means “to join” in reference to the union of the individual consciousness to that of the Universal Consciousness that the practice of yoga facilitates. Yoga may include aspects such as Asana (postures), Breathwork, Meditation, and Chanting.

Practicing yoga is known to improve mental health and well-being by:

  • boosting immunity

  • increasing energy

  • building strength

  • increasing flexibility

  • lowering blood pressure

  • supporting weight loss and maintenance

  • supporting joint health

  • improving bodily functions

...and so much more!

Emma's Yoga Practice

For 15 years of her life, Emma was a gymnast cultivating a love for movement that uses and builds strength, while creating a feeling of liberation all in an aesthetically artful way. After retiring as an athlete, she found yoga and earned her certification as a yoga instructor at age 19, after one year of practicing at a studio.

Though Emma’s yoga practice certainly includes the physical and athletic elements of many practices, her main priority and passion is to provide a space for emotional release and spiritual transcendence that may be achieved through yoga with her artistically chosen sequences. While her years as an athlete have laid the foundation for her to specialize in intermediate and advanced yoga practice options, cues for modifications are given continuously to keep classes accessible to all ability levels.

Emma’s combination of building strength and flexibility while using the body as a vessel to feel and process emotions is what makes her yoga practice so special.
